![]() If Allume had been purchased Nuance, then I'd have seen that as the kiss of death: Nuance seems to be the place Mac where applications go to die. The change of ownership to SmithMicro may be good in the long term. I'm letting 10.x burn in a good bit longer than usual. I tend to let them burn-in for six months or more before considering an upgrade. StuffIt has had a history of troublesome major version releases, e.g. for sharing a collection of pictures with a Windows user. StuffIt Deluxe is also useful for creating Windows-friendly self-extracting archives, e.g.Hdiutil command in Terminal, or a third party interface to such, to create a segmented disk image as that function is not exposed in Disk Utility. This can also be done with disk images, but one has to use either the ![]() for breaking up a large archive into smaller parts that can be e-mailed and then reconstituted by the recipient. Stuffit Deluxe can still be useful for creating segmented archives, i.e.StuffIt Expander is still required to decompress. However, StuffIt products still have some uses despite the "Create Archive" function added to Mac OS X in Panther: I've not upgraded my license for StuffIt Deluxe 9.0.2 to 10.x. "With Tiger 10.4.6, I find that SE 902 still seems to work flawlessly, but isn't the "lastest" edition. With Tiger 10.4.6, I find that SE 902 still seems to work flawlessly, but isn't the "lastest" edition. I know safari, when set to open safe files, will open hqx files, but if that hqx file is a dmg format and an application, it opens it right away (thus you have to close everything out if you were not intending to run the installer right away) and the new security feature asking if you want to continue to download pops up (meaning, don't start downloading and walk away). I have emailed the company several times but always get a different response as to why this is. But for months, the website says version 10.0.2 is available, but version 10.0.1 is the link you get. Another issue is that, at one point, the standalone version of SE 10.0.2 use to be available when you requested the download link. Versions 10.x all have certain issues and each version of SE 10 has a problems where it will not automatically scan expanded files with your virus app (due to an issue where the preference to do so doesn't stay saved). I find that version 902 (out of 10.0.1 and 10.0.2) seems to be the least problematic. First of all, the company keeps changing owners and the support options keep changing. I don't know about you, but it seems that stuffit expander is more and more less of a required app to have installed.
